Kemetic Religion

Herotodus, the greek historian claimed the kemetic people “to have been the most religious people in the world” [meta-religion.com]

Like many ancient religions, they did not have a name or special word as the beliefs were a part of life itself.

Homes had shrines, prayers and offerings given daily as well as ancestral busts/steale were set up in wall niches for prayers and offerings to be given to deceased relatives.

Community festivals were held to honour the appearance of God, when the temple icon was taken in a procession and visits were made to cemeteries to honour the blessed dead.

The Kemets held their concept of divinity “in the idea of monolatry, the belief in one god with many forms”[meta-religion.com]

The Netjer, or The One, The divine force or power of creation is far beyond human comprehension, however the power is not just intelligent, it is also sentient, the kemetics believed that it loves humans and wants us to have a relationship with it.

In order for humans to become close to the Netjer, it separated itself into many different names, each name one of the Gods and Goddesses of Kemet.

The kemetic society based itself on Ma’at, who is both a concept and a deity, it is believed to be “the fundamental order of the universe, what is right and just”[meta-religion.com]

In the kemetic society, the King was the link between heaven and earth, between the Netjer and his people.

The King was believed to be the living Heru (one of the names of the Netjer), and thus entrusted with governing the country in the ways of Ma-at and serving in accordance to the Netjer’s will.

It was the kings duty to insure that the country was ruled in Ma’at, and thus the forces of destruction were kept at bay. As long as the Ma’at prevailed, Kemet and the world could continue.

Within the Kemetic belief system, there is the aspect of the parent name, which is one of the aspects of the Netjer which “had chosen that person at birth, had spoken the person into existence and given that person a soul” [meta-religion.com]

The parent name looks after and guides a persons life. The Kemetics believe that all people on earth have a parent name, regardless of religion.

In today’s society, you can see the rekindled form of this ancient belief, in the Kemetic Orthodoxy. The Netjer is again being worshipped and served, much like that of the ancient times.
